Remember to tell us a bit about the photo.

The fondest memories of my childhood are of those spent in the kitchen along side my mother, My mother taught me to cook, bake, and to appreciate the process of creating food for your friends and family.  She taught me, if even unkowningly the connection between food and memories as well as the shared connection that people could experience over a meal. At times though out the years, it bridged a gap between the tweo of us.. She took great pains and a bit of pride in the preperation and presentation of her meals. I was in charge of setting the table for family dinners.  My mother encouraged me to use cloth napkins, place flatware, and to dress the table with something pretty.  She believed  " a meal should be pleasant and food should be enjoyed".

So many of my young memories are tied to the foods we prepared in the kitchen together. Our kitchen was the calander of the house. If you woke to the smell of vegatable soup simmering on the stove it was a cold winter weekend. Baking breads, and hot cross buns happen in a spring kitchen, but summer quickly followed with fresh corn to husk, and rhubard pie to bake. The fruit trees made for fall canning and full circle back to winter frost and the smell of holiday cookies wafting through the house.

So, you will most likely here me mention my mum, Betty, more often then not. The vintage cook that lead me to my love of cooking, baking, and all things vintage.
